Biography
Astghik Mavisakalyan is a Senior Research Fellow at the Bankwest Curtin Economics Centre. Previously Astghik has served as a postdoctoral fellow at the Research School of Economics at the Australian National University. She has also held appointments at the Social Policy Research Centre at the University of New South Wales and at the Centre for Economics of Education and Training at Monash University.
Astghik’s research interests are in economics of education, labour economics and political economy. She holds a PhD in economics from the University of Sydney. In 2010, she received the Walter Noel Gillies Prize for Best PhD Thesis in Economics at the University of Sydney; in 2015 she was awarded Curtin Business School New Researcher of the Year award. Astghik’s research has been published in a number of national and international journals. She serves on the editorial committee of The Economic and Labour Relations Review.
Astghik has also contributed to major research reports for a number of national organisations, including the Department of Health, NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet, National Centre for Vocational Education Research. She has completed projects for international organisations such as the United Nations University World Institute for Development Economics Research (UNU-WIDER) and the Local Government and Public Service Reform Initiative of the Open Society Institute.
