William O'Brochta is a graduate student pursuing a Ph.D. in political science in the Department of Political Science at Washington University in Saint Louis. He is majoring in comparative politics and minoring in formal methods. Research interests include ethnic conflict, regional separatism, natural resource wealth, and civil war. Much of this research is in the post-Communist setting, though he studies Central and Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and developing states more broadly. His paper on the impact of tourism on regional autonomy is forthcoming at Tourism Economics and his paper on natural resources and the Bosnian War was published in the Journal of International Studies. He has presented at the Arkansas Political Science Association, Mathematical Association of America, and American Political Science Association.
William received his undergraduate degree in politics and mathematics from Hendrix College, graduating Summa Cum Laude with distinction in both majors and having been inducted into Pi Sigma Alpha political science honor society and Pi Mu Epsilon mathematics honor society.
William is also the Council William T. Hornaday Awards Coordinator, William T. Hornaday Awards Specialist, and Council Life to Eagle Specialist for the Blue Ridge Mountains Council as well as National Jamboree Hornaday Tent Supervisor for the Boy Scouts of America. He has received the Hornaday Silver Medal, Badge, and Gold Badge and is an Eagle Scout.
