Biography :
Sabine Freizer is a nonresident senior fellow with the Eurasia Center and the Future Europe Initiative.
Dr. Freizer has twenty years of experience working on southeastern Europe and Eurasia. She served as the Europe program director for the International Crisis Group (ICG) between 2009 and May 2013, supervising offices in Sarajevo, Pristina, Istanbul, Tbilisi, and Moscow. Previously she was the ICG South Caucasus director, and before that, she worked with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in Georgia, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, and Bosnia. During the 1992 to 1995 war in Bosnia-Herzegovina, she volunteered with several humanitarian organizations.
Dr. Freizer has written extensively on governance and rule of law issues, civil society development, and conflict prevention and resolution, and she has regularly conducted high level advocacy on policy questions in Brussels, European capitals, and the United States.
A graduate of Dartmouth College, Dr. Freizer has a PhD from the London School of Economics and a master's degree from the College of Europe (Bruges), which she earned as a Fulbright scholar. She has been a board member the Eurasia Partnership Foundation since 2009 and is based in Istanbul, Turkey.
