Biography :
Dr. Makaryan's research explains the mechanisms of diffusion of state policies, and the impact of the world political culture vs. domestic forces (such as nationalism and nation-building attempts) on shaping policies of nation-states. Her past and current research examines the institutionalization and transformation of citizenship regimes globally and among all 15 post-Soviet states in particular; techniques of measurement of international migration; labor migration and migration-development issues in migrant-sending countries, as well as migration policy-making, and construction and institutionalization of policies on diasporas in post-Soviet states. Dr. Makaryan is also a country expert on Armenia’s citizenship regime at the European Union Democratic Observatory on Citizenship (EUDO Academic Observatory on Citizenship); and was a Jean Monnet Fellow at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies at European University Institute, Italy.
