About Organization
The Institute of Strategic Studies of the Caucasus (ISSC) was founded in 1999. Dr. Eldar M. Ismailov is the founder and director of the Institute. The primary goal of the Institute is to investigate the main geopolitical, social, and economic phenomena and processes taking place in the Caucasus, and thus contribute to the successful sociopolitical and economic development of its countries and peoples. The Institute conducts its research activities in the following main areas: Geohistory of the Caucasus; Regional geopolitical and geo-economic processes; Regional security; Nation- and state-building in the regional states; Problems of economic development of the regional states; Regional integration processes; Sociocultural problems of regional development; Ethnic relations in the Caucasus. The results of the research studies conducted at the Institute have been set forth in dozens of published books, including the following: Geohistory of the Caspian Region and Geopolitics Today (2002) by Parvin Darabadi; Self-Government of Baku at the End of the 19th-Beginning of the 20th Centuries (2003) by Kamala Odjagova; The Central Caucasus and the Economy of Georgia (2004) by Teymuraz Beridze, Eldar Ismailov, and Vladimir Papava; Security of the Caucasus and Sustainable Development of the Republic of Azerbaijan (2004) by Jannatkhan Eyvazov; Democratic Republics of the South-Western Caucasus (2004) by Aydin Gadjiyev; Deethnization of Caucasian Albanians in the 19th Century (2004) by Ulviya Gadjiyeva; Emigrant Literature of Azerbaijan (2004) by Gasan Guliyev; Metamorphoses of Collective Memory in Russia and the Central Caucasus (2005) by Rauf Karagezov. The Institute has its head office in Baku, the Republic of Azerbaijan.
